Brunswick Bags Young

Longtime Chief of Staff Charles Young has flown the Congressional coop after a seven-year Capitol Hill tenure to join the Washington office of the international communications consultancy firm Brunswick Group Inc. as senior associate partner.

Young, formerly chief of staff to Rep. Steven Rothman (D-N.J.), advised and managed legislative policy, media relations, constituent services, staff supervision and budget oversight. He has also served as temporary chief of staff to Rep. Rush Holt (D-N.J.).

Prior to arriving on the Hill, Young spent several years as a journalist working in New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Kentucky. In 1996, he founded a public relations firm, Media Wise, which aimed to assist clients with improving their public image, as well as their overall interactions with the media.

Christine Layman has moved over to the Judiciary Committee, where she serves as assistant to Majority Chief of Staff Phil Kiko.

Layman, who received a 2002 bachelor’s in communications and French from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, earlier spent time on the campaign trail, when the 23-year-old worked on the successful bid of Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.).
