Early Frost
In his first term in the House, Rep. Martin Frost (D-Texas) hired this fresh-faced government and politics student as an intern. Today the intern is himself a freshman Congressman.
In this 1979 photo, Frost poses with future Rep. Dennis Cardoza of California. Cardoza, a Democrat who was 20 at the time, had completed two years at California State University at Stanislaus and spent the summer in Frost’s office before transferring to the University of Maryland.
Cardoza also later worked for then-Rep. Gary Condit, whom he defeated last year in the California Democratic primary.
Frost, who was 37 in this picture, went on to become head of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and later spent four years as chairman of the Democratic Caucus.
