Book stores

Grocery stores

Eastern Market: Not so much a grocery store as a European-style hall of vendors, Eastern Market is among the best places in town to buy meat, seafood and farm-fresh produce. Open year-round, 225 Seventh St. SE.

Giant Foods: There are six Giant Food stores in the District of Columbia and many more in the outlying suburbs. The closest to Capitol Hill is located next to the Rhode Island Avenue Metrorail station next to Home Depot at 1035 Brentwood Road NE. See www.giantfood.com for more locations or details.

Peapod by Giant: Giant’s delivery service, Peapod, allows users to do their grocery shopping online. Delivery is available throughout D.C. and its suburbs. See www.peapod.com.

Yes! Organic Market: This small health food store offers a variety of natural foods. 648 Pennsylvania Ave. SE, (202) 546-9850.

Whole Foods: There are three Whole Foods markets, the world’s largest retailer of organic and natural foods, in the District. The closest to the Hill is in Logan Circle, at 14th and P streets Northwest. See www.wholefoods.com for more locations and information.

Gyms
