Sunny Strategy Session

Correction Appended

Twenty years ago, a handful of noteworthy politicians and advisers headed to Kennebunkport, Maine, for a campaign meeting with then-Vice President George H.W. Bush, who at the time was running for president. Sitting in the circle with Bush are (clockwise from Bush) former Oklahoma Gov. Henry Bellmon, then-Rhode Island Gov. Edward DiPrete, Bush operative Bobby Holt, George W. Bush, political strategist Lee Atwater, then-Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson and Rich Bond, who would serve as Republican National Committee chairman from 1992 to 1993.
The people in the background are unidentified except for the man in the center, then-New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu, who would go on to serve as George H.W. Bush’s White House chief of staff, and the man sitting next to him, political strategist Russ Schriefer.

Correction: April 23, 2007
The caption accompanying the April 19 Photo From the Attic mistakenly identified former Oklahoma Gov. Henry Bellmon.
