Al Wolff toils in the Capitol’s old steam room in this undated photo. Wolff, a machinist from Prussia, was hired in 1896 as a fireman and later moved to the position of machinist, for which he was paid a yearly salary of $1,600. The old steam room is now occupied by rooms HT-34 and HT-36.
