Weller Confirms Retirement

Rep. Jerry Weller (R-Ill.), who has had to fend off allegations in recent weeks about questionable Central American land deals, will announce Friday that he will not seek an eighth term in 2008, inside sources confirmed late Thursday.

Contacted by Roll Call on Wednesday, Weller’s campaign manager denied that the Congressman was planning to retire. But Weller notified his staff later that evening about his intentions and indicated that he will publicly announce his retirement plans on Friday.
