New Mexico: Heinrich Maneuvers Way Onto DCCC List

Former Albuquerque City Councilor Martin Heinrich on Monday was added to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Red to Blue” fundraising and infrastructure program.

Heinrich is running in the open 1st district against Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White (R) in a race that is expected to be heavily targeted by both the DCCC and the National Republican Congressional Committee, although the NRCC will likely have less money to spend than its counterpart.

“The Red to Blue Program will give Martin the financial and structural edge to be even more competitive,” DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen (Md.) said in a statement.

The Democratic-leaning 1st district is being vacated by Rep. Heather Wilson (R). Wilson ran for Senate but lost in last week’s GOP primary to Rep. Steve Pearce (R).
