New Hampshire: Sununu Hopes McCain Sheen Rubs Off on Him

Sen. John Sununu (R) will join the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, Sen. John McCain (Ariz), on the campaign trail in the Granite State today. Sununu’s campaign confirmed that he will join McCain at a town hall in Nashua in the early afternoon.

Sununu faces a tough re-election challenge from former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D), whom he defeated in his 2002 race. Publically released polls have shown Sununu trailing Shaheen — oftentimes by double digits.

However, McCain remains popular in the Granite State, which observers believe is competitive this presidential election because of his candidacy. Local Republicans see McCain’s candidacy as a boost to Sununu, who will share a ticket with him this fall.
