Maryland: Home-State Democrats Host Kratovil on Hill

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (Md.) and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen (Md.) will host a fundraiser in Washington, D.C., on Thursday for fellow Maryland Democrat Frank Kratovil to support his campaign for the open 1st district seat on the Eastern Shore.

In a joint fundraising letter released Wednesday, Hoyer and Van Hollen call the district “ripe for a pick-up,” especially after moderate Republican Rep. Wayne Gilchrest was defeated in the state’s February primary by conservative state Sen. Andy Harris (R). Harris was heavily supported by the anti-tax group the Club for Growth in a bitter primary that included another GOP state Senator.

“Ensuring that Frank has the resources he needs to fight back against Andy Harris and his Club for Growth allies is a critical priority for us,” Hoyer and Van Hollen said in their fundraising letter. The suggested donation for the June fundraiser is $2,000 for individuals or $5,000 for political action committees.
