Pennsylvania: Carney Gets Promotion in the Naval Reserves

Rep. Christopher Carney (D) has been promoted to commander in the Navy Reserve, according his Congressional office.

Carney is one of two Members serving in the reserves and has done so since 1995. According to the official press release, Carney was also one of about 34 intelligence officers who received the promotion.

The 10th district is traditionally Republican, voting for President Bush with 60 percent in 2004. As a result, Carney has had a target on his back since the beginning of the cycle.

The freshman Democrat won his seat after a personal scandal drove longtime Rep. Don Sherwood (R) campaign into the ground. Carney faces businessman Chris Hackett (R) this November.
