Michigan: EMILY’s List Won’t Turn the Other Cheeks

EMILY’s List has endorsed Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (D), who faces a three-way primary on Aug. 5 and her toughest re-election challenge in six terms.

“EMILY’s List is proud to again endorse Congresswoman Kilpatrick as a leader and an inspiration to progressive Democratic women everywhere,” EMILY’s List President Ellen Malcolm said in a statement.

Kilpatrick’s son, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick (D), has been charged with eight felony counts following a whistle-blower trial. The Congresswoman has always stood by her son, whose tenure in office has been marred by scandal, and as a result she is getting grief from Democrats in Michigan.

Kilpatrick is being challenged by state Sen. Martha Scott and former state Rep. Mary Waters for the Democratic nod in a district that includes much of Detroit.
