Nebraska: Johanns’ First Spots Focus on Pocketbook

Former Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns (R) is up with his first television ad of his Senate campaign, which he is expected to win handily over Democrat Scott Kleeb.

Johanns, who is also a former Nebraska governor, hit the airwaves Tuesday with a positive 30-second spot that extols the merits of his plan to rejuvenate the economy. The spot is airing on broadcast television in the Omaha, Lincoln, Hastings and Kearney media markets.

“In times like these we need action to strengthen the economy and create jobs. And I’ve got a plan to do just that. And I put it in writing,” Johanns says, directly into the camera, as the ad opens.

Kleeb, the Democratic nominee in the 3rd district in 2006, has failed to gain traction while waging an uphill battle in the solidly conservative Cornhusker State. Sen. Chuck Hagel (R) is retiring.
