New Mexico: Pearce Hopes St. Pete Can Perform Miracles

Rep. Steve Pearce (R) is hoping St. Pete can be a game-changer in a Senate race that has found him consistently trailing Rep. Tom Udall (D) since Day One.

Outgoing Sen. Pete Domenici (R), known as St. Pete in New Mexico political circles, has cut an ad for Pearce. The 30-second spot was unveiled Friday; it is running statewide on broadcast and cable television.

“For a long time you’ve allowed me to serve you,” Domenici says as the ad opens. “Together we’ve accomplished a lot for New Mexico. Now, I must pass this work to someone who can continue our progress. Steve Pearce is that someone.”

“Do the right thing for New Mexico’s future,” Domenici says as the ad closes. “Join me and vote for Steve Pearce.”

Domenici has not always been on Pearce’s side, however. In the Republican primary earlier this year, he endorsed Rep. Heather Wilson (R), who narrowly lost the GOP race despite the Senator’s support.
