Burris Will Crash Senate Swearing-In

Former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris (D) is planning to show up in the Senate on Tuesday morning to claim his seat even though the Democratic leadership has made clear they are unlikely to install him.

Burris, appointed by disgraced Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich to replace President-elect Barack Obama, said in a statement released Monday afternoon that he plans to arrive in the Senate on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. to take part in the swearing-in of the 111th Congress.

“It is my humble honor to represent the people of the great state of Illinois,” Burris said. “I look forward to working with my Senate colleagues and the Obama Administration as a partner for progress to get our economy back on track.”
