Obama to Party With D.C. Residents

President-elect Barack Obama is holding a Neighborhood Inaugural Ball the night of his swearing-in, with a portion of the tickets reserved for District residents.

The ball will be held at the Washington Convention Center, with free and “affordable” tickets available. The Presidential Inaugural Committee has not yet announced how many tickets of each type will be available or how much they will cost.

In a press release Monday, the committee touted the event as the “first official inaugural ball of its kind.”

“This is an Inauguration for all Americans,” Obama said in the release. “I wanted to make sure that we had an event that would be open to our new neighborhood here in Washington, D.C., and also neighborhoods across the country. Michelle and I look forward to joining our fellow Americans across the country during this very special event.”

Webcasting and text messaging at the ball will “link neighborhoods across the country with the new President and this premier event,” according to the release.
