Burris Swearing-In Likely to Be Thursday

Updated: 12:26 p.m.

Democrat Roland Burris is now likely to be sworn in as the new Senator from Illinois on Thursday, rather than on Wednesday as previously reported.

A Burris source said the former Illinois attorney general may have a conflict with the Wednesday ceremony. This source suggested Burris doesn’t think he can get his family to town by then.

The schedule change may pose another problem, however. Vice President Dick Cheney, who was supposed to perform Burris’ swearing-in on Wednesday per his role as President of the Senate, may have difficulty with the switch because he will be traveling.

The Burris source said another Senator would likely stand in for Cheney if the swearing-in is moved to Thursday.
