Chabot to Run Again in 2010

Former Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Ohio) is seeking a rematch against freshman Rep. Steve Driehaus (D-Ohio), the man who ousted him in 2008. The former seven-term lawmaker filed papers with the Federal Election Commission last week to run for his old seat again next year. Chabot confirmed his candidacy to the Cincinnati Enquirer today. “Yes, I intend to run and I intend to win,” Chabot told the newspaper. His candidacy sets up a competitive race in the southwestern Ohio district. Democrats went to great lengths to defeat Chabot in previous cycles before Driehaus defeated him 53 percent to 48 percent last year. Driehaus’ victory was attributed, in part, to elevated black voter turnout in the Cincinnati area due to the presence of now-President Barack Obama at the top of the ticket. Ohio is expected to host competitive gubernatorial and Senate contests in 2010.
