GOP Blames Pelosi for Recession

In their latest attack on the policies of Democratic leaders, House Republicans are now pinning the economic recession squarely on the shoulders of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).In a Monday e-mail titled “End the Pelosi Recession,— House Ways and Means ranking member Dave Camp (R-Mich.) criticized “Pelosi and her cronies— for planning massive tax hikes during the recession. Worse, charged Camp, is that those tax hikes will be used to fund Wall Street bonuses and bigger government. “We must work together to end the Pelosi Recession’ and start to rebuild our economy with sound and fair principles,— Camp said in his letter, which was paid for by the National Republican Congressional Committee and e-mailed to NRCC supporters.Camp spokesman Sage Eastman said Republicans are justified in blaming Pelosi for the sinking economy because of her influence on laws that are implemented and their impact on the country.“She’s the Speaker. She’s running Congress. … She’s the one that decides what bills move and what bills don’t move,— Eastman said. Her agenda “has done little to improve the nation’s situation.—Pelosi spokesman Nadeam Elshami redirected blame back at Republicans.“This is a case of Republican amnesia, where they can’t seem to remember that they were actually the ones responsible for passing the Bush economic agenda that got us into this economic mess today,— Elshami said.
