Biden Says He Would Avoid Planes, Subway

Vice President Joseph Biden said Thursday he would advise his own family members to avoid the swine flu by staying off commercial airplanes and subways.”I would tell members of my family … I wouldn’t go anywhere in confined places now,” Biden said in response to a question from Matt Lauer on the “Today— show. Biden added, “If one person sneezes, it goes all the way through the aircraft.”Biden emphasized this was his personal view, but he added that he wouldn’t suggest taking the subway to work either.”I would not be at this point, if they had another mode of transportation, be suggesting they ride the subway,” he said.Biden reiterated comments made Wednesday night by President Barack Obama that there was no need to shut the border with Mexico or curtail air travel from that country. He said “leading experts” have advised that such a move would not be “efficacious.” He said the focus should be on mitigation, not border closings.
