Florida: House Democrats Get in Line Behind Sink

All 10 Democrats in the Sunshine State’s House delegation announced Monday that they will support state Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink’s (D) gubernatorial bid in 2010.

The popular Sink had been viewed as the top potential candidate in the Senate race to replace retiring Sen. Mel Martinez (R). But despite encouragement from national Democrats, Sink passed on the Senate contest in January.

That move opened the door for Rep. Kendrick Meek to jump out to a fast fundraising start in the Democratic primary.

After a strong first-quarter fundraising report and a campaign assist from various high-profile national leaders, Meek is looking like the establishment candidate in the race. Some party insiders are now wondering if state Sen. Dan Gelber (D) might drop out before the primary.
