Kirk Divorce Finalized

The office of Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) announced Friday that the Congressman has completed divorce proceedings with his wife.

“Congressman Kirk’s divorce from his wife of eight years, Kimberly Vertolli, will become final on Monday, June 8,— Kirk spokesman Eric Elk said. “They remain friends, and the legal filings related to the divorce will not be sealed.—

Kirk is in his fifth term representing a Democratic-leaning north Chicagoland seat. He is seriously considering running for Senate or governor in 2010.

He isn’t the only Member to announce a recent divorce.

In early May, Rep. William Lacy Clay’s (D-Mo.) split from his wife made headlines after she claimed she found out he filed for divorce from news reports.

Clay responded that he and his wife had been discussing the situation for several months and that the move toward divorce shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone.
