Ohio: Boehner Challenger Puts Away His Guns

Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones (R) has opted not to challenge Minority Leader John Boehner (R) for his southwestern Ohio seat, according to local reports.

Jones took out petition papers to run for the seat in April but said last week in a statement to the press that he has decided to continue in his role as sheriff instead.

“After extensive review and discussions with various individuals in the political and private sectors, and given the current economic conditions and local needs, I have decided to continue as sheriff of Butler County,— Jones told the Oxford Press.

Boehner won re-election in his solidly Republican district with 68 percent in 2008.
