Biden Pitches Health Care Overhaul to Small Businesses

Vice President Joseph Biden on Friday hosted a White House event touting the benefits of President Barack Obama’s health insurance proposals to small businesses.Targeting a key portion of what the GOP considers to be its base, Biden focused on the benefit that health insurance “exchanges— would have for Main Street. Exchanges would allow companies and consumers to compare the benefits and prices of a range of insurance plans, including a public option. Biden expressed optimism that Congress will pass health care overhaul legislation and suggested he believes the initial bills can be moved out of the House and Senate by the August recess. But he also seemed to reveal some of the frustration the White House is feeling with the slow going on Capitol Hill. “As my grandfather used to say, with the grace of God and the goodwill of the neighbors, we are going to have a bill out of both the House and the Senate by the recess,— he said.Biden was joined by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius at the event, which included a group of small-business owners and employees.
