Begich Breaks Silence, Will Vote Yes on Sotomayor

Freshman Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska) announced Thursday that he will vote to confirm Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, putting to rest any outstanding questions about waffling Democratic support for the nominee. In a brief statement released by his office, Begich said he had reviewed her record and found her qualified. “Confirming a member of the United States Supreme Court is one of the most important responsibilities of a senator and one I take very seriously. Today, following one of the most thorough confirmation processes in Senate history, I am honored to vote to confirm Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the U.S. Supreme Court,— Begich said.The rookie Senator had earlier said he was undecided. His home-state colleague, Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski, announced Wednesday night that she would oppose the nomination.
