AFSCME Launches Push for Health Care Reform

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is launching a multiplatform lobbying campaign Tuesday for the union’s “Highway to Health Care Reform— campaign. The group unveiled a new video and five-figure buy of blog ads to accompany its rock-themed RV tour, all aimed at discussing health care reform’s affects on the middle class. The video features Americans singing about the need for health care reform and asks viewers to contact their lawmakers to ensure that reform moves forward. “Even though opponents of reform spew venom and misinformation, the fact of the matter is that Americans are revved up and ready for real health care reform and eager to know what’s in it for them,— AFSCME President Gerald McEntee said in a statement. “We’re tired of the insurance industry putting their profits ahead of the health and well being of the middle class. This tour is a unique way of taking that message to battleground states across the country.—The union’s RV tour officially starts Wednesday in Bismarck, N.D. The group is targeting Nebraska, Arkansas, Louisiana, Indiana, Ohio, Virginia, Delaware and Maine.
