Pelosi Tries to Fundraise Off GOP Name-Calling

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is appealing to supporters to send campaign cash to Democrats to fight back against shouting Republicans. Both parties have seen a fundraising bonanza in the wake of Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) screaming “You lie!— at President Barack Obama during Obama’s joint address to Congress last week. But Pelosi’s fundraising letter Thursday on behalf of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee does not mention Wilson by name, instead tarring the broader Republican Party as one that is resorting to name-calling in a cynical attempt to stop health care reform.“If this summer proved anything, it showed how urgently we must stand together to restore civility to our politics and help President Obama seize this historic moment for health insurance reform in America,— Pelosi said. “With the Republicans already claiming victory for trying to silence respectful debate, it is up to grassroots Democrats to show the world that no amount of shouting can drown out our determination to enact health insurance reform.—Pelosi also called the 2010 elections the “toughest midterm election that Democrats have ever faced.—
