Finance Health Care Markup Resumes

The marathon Senate Finance Committee health care markup got back under way Tuesday morning, with Members ready to debate two controversial public insurance option amendments.Democratic Sens. Jay Rockefeller (W.Va.) and Charles Schumer (N.Y.) are set to introduce separate public insurance option amendments to Chairman Max Baucus’ (D-Mont.) $900 billion reform package, now in its fifth day of markup. In fact, Rockefeller, the chairman of the Finance Subcommittee on Health Care, introduced his proposal around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday.“I hope it will be considered for what it is, and that is practical and important,— Rockefeller said, in his opening statement. Neither amendment is expected to pass.Tuesday’s health care markup is expected to last late into the evening.
