Hawaii: EMILY’s List Backs Hanabusa in 1st District

EMILY’s List has endorsed state Senate President Colleen Hanabusa (D) in her bid for Congress in the Aloha State. Hanabusa, who has been supported by EMILY’s List in some of her past races, will face former Rep. Ed Case in the Democratic primary next September.

“Her dedication to public service and experience as a labor attorney, community organizer, and legislative leader is second to none,— EMILY’s List President Ellen Malcolm said in a statement. “In office, Colleen has not hesitated to take strong stands to protect the rights of women, children, and working families.—

Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D) is retiring from Congress after 10 terms to run for governor, leaving a wide-open race for his seat. Although the Democratic nominee is favored to win, Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou (R) is also running, and national Republicans have indicated that they are interested in supporting his bid.
