RNC Outraises DNC in September, but Democrats Lead in Third-Quarter Receipts
The Republican National Committee outraised the Democratic National Committee in September, but the DNC took in more money than its counterpart in the third quarter.The RNC reported raising $9.1 million last month and began October with $18.9 million in the bank and no debts, according to a report filed Tuesday with the Federal Election Commission.The RNC took in $23.2 million in the third quarter and $68.8 million in the first nine months of this year.The DNC will report that it raised upward of $8 million in September, bringing its third-quarter total to $24.2 million and its year-to-date receipts to nearly $62 million.The DNC will report that it had $14.9 million in cash on hand at the end of September, which is slightly less than the $15.3 million that the committee had in the bank at the end of August. The DNC’s latest debt total was not immediately available, but the committee was $5.3 million in the red at the end of August.The RNC outpaced the DNC in fundraising in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles, though the DNC has been more competitive in the 2010 election cycle with a Democrat in the White House.The RNC reported transferring $1.06 million last month to the Republican Party of Virginia, which is working to elect former Attorney General Bob McDonnell (R) in the Nov. 3 gubernatorial election. The DNC is assisting the Democratic nominee, state Sen. Creigh Deeds.
