Campaign Poll Shows Edwards Ahead of Ross

Polk County Supervisor of Elections Lori Edwards released an internal campaign poll Monday that showed her ahead of former state Rep. Dennis Ross by 4 points in the race to fill the seat of retiring Rep. Adam Putnam (R) in Florida’s 12th district.

The survey of 400 likely voters found Edwards up 46 percent to 42 percent, but that lead is still within the survey’s 4.9 percent margin of error. The poll was conducted Nov. 17-19 by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research for Edwards campaign.

Democrats have been high on Edwards as they look to target an open seat that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) won by fewer than 4,000 votes in the 2008 presidential contest. Ross has the backing of state and national party leaders and has outperformed Edwards on the fundraising front, but he also faces the prospect of a multi-candidate primary.
