Hurt Takes In $293,000 For Race Against Virginia Rep. Perriello

Virginia state Sen. Robert Hurt (R), a leading candidate for the seat of Rep. Tom Perriello (D), raised $293,000 in the final two months of 2009, his campaign said Thursday.

Hurt initiated his campaign in early October but began soliciting donations in early November, after Virginia’s statewide and legislative elections. His campaign said he raised more than 80 percent of his funds from Virginia donors.

“I’m delighted to note that we exceeded our fundraising goals and appear to have raised more money from district residents than any other Republican in the race,” Hurt said in a statement. “Defeating Tom Perriello in November will not be easy, and it will take someone who can persuade hard-working folks from Danville to Charlottesville that this cause is worth their time and investment.”
