California: Boxer Started Year With $7.2 Million Banked

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D) raised more than $1.8 million in the fourth quarter of 2009, ending the year with $7.2 million in the bank.

The numbers reported by her campaign put Boxer at $5.9 million raised for the year, including $1.1 million online. The campaign also touted the fact that Boxer starts 2010 with far more cash than in her 2004 re-election campaign (she had $5 million as that election year began).

Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, one of Boxer’s prospective Republican challengers, already disclosed that her campaign will report nearly $3.6 million in receipts, including a $2.5 million personal loan, in the final quarter of the year.

Fiorina ended 2009 with more than $2.7 million in cash on hand.

State Assemblyman Chuck DeVore and former Rep. Tom Campbell are also vying to take on Boxer. The GOP primary takes place in June.
