Pomeroy: ‘I’m Not Nancy Pelosi’

In a tight race against state Rep. Rick Berg (R), nine-term Rep. Earl Pomeroy (D) is making his final plea to North Dakota voters with an unusual ad this week. He declares he gets the anger with Washington, and spells out plainly that he’s “not” either of the two most unpopular national Democrats.

The ad features Pomeroy wearing a red plaid shirt, sitting at a table with a cup of coffee and speaking directly to the camera as a guitar plays softly in the background. Titled “Introduce,” the ad shows Pomeroy clarifying that he is neither Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) nor President Barack Obama but a resident of Valley City who travels back to North Dakota every weekend.

“I know you’re angry with Washington,” he says. “But we’ll all be angrier next year if they kill the farm bill, privatize Social Security or take away that prescription drug benefit. My opponent would go to Washington and pick the side of special interests, help make all that possible.”

It’s not the first unusual ad Pomeroy has aired this month. In early October, the Blue Dog aired an ad defending his vote for the new health care law.
