President Barack Obama will sit down with a dozen Members of the House Trade Working Group on Thursday to discuss the next steps for advancing a free-trade agreement with South Korea.

Obama will host the group at the White House at 2:30 p.m., said Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.), one of the meeting’s attendees.

Slaughter and others in the trade working group seek protections for domestic manufacturers and have been critical of Obama’s interest in passing trade agreements with South Korea, Panama and Colombia that were negotiated during George W. Bush’s administration.

Obama was unsuccessful in attempts last week to iron out differences in the South Korean pact during a visit to Asia. Slaughter praised Obama for taking a stand against a rushed agreement that may not have included enough protections for domestic workers, and declared it a victory for U.S. manufacturers.
