Heard on the Hill: Hastert’s Walking a Thin Line

A spy eyed former Speaker Dennis Hastert on a flight headed to Illinois on Friday afternoon and reports that the Prairie State Republican has maintained his slimmer physique.

Hastert — who famously dropped nearly 100 pounds since leaving office — was wearing his glasses and a suit with a yellow tie and sat in first class. Our spy stopped to say hello, and Hastert “was very sweet” about it — and he even got a little excited when our spy called him “Mr. Speaker.”

Our spy also spotted debt commission Co-Chairman Erskine Bowles at Reagan National Airport, where he sat waiting for a United flight to his home state of North Carolina.
