The House will pass a three-day continuing resolution Friday as an insurance policy in case the Senate cannot get its act together on a longer-term spending bill.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said the new bill would keep the government operating through Tuesday. He said his hope is that the Senate will act on a longer-term spending bill before midnight Saturday, when the current CR expires.

The Maryland Democrat said he doesn’t want the House to have to return next week, but that it will depend on the Senate.

“I know there are at least 434 of my colleagues who are not happy about anything right now,” Hoyer joked on the floor.

Hoyer noted that he lives alone, and has not yet had time to put up a single holiday decoration yet.
