AOC Permitted to Buy Maintenance Facility for Capitol Police

President Barack Obama signed into law Saturday legislation that allows the Architect of the Capitol to buy a vehicle maintenance facility for the Capitol Police and streamlines the agency’s salary structure.

The law makes available AOC building or security funds that were not yet spent between 2007 and 2010 to purchase a facility that is currently being leased. AOC will work to finalize the purchase over the next few months, spokeswoman Eva Malecki said in an e-mail.

The law, which passed the House in November and the Senate earlier this month, also streamlines the statutory authorities for up to 32 AOC senior-level positions into one statute, giving the agency more flexibility to spread the positions throughout the organization, Malecki said.

“Over the years, Congress had passed five laws creating three categories of senior management positions in the AOC,” she said. “This legislation combines the affected positions into one category for administrative purposes.”
