Eric Holcomb, a longtime aide to Gov. Mitch Daniels, was unanimously elected chairman of the Indiana Republican Party on Monday.
 
Daniels is considering a run for the GOP presidential nomination since he’s term-limited out of office in 2012, and Holcomb’s move to the state party has prompted speculation about Daniels’ intentions.
 
Holcomb, 42, is deputy chief of staff in the governor’s office, and he worked on the governor’s 2004 and 2008 campaigns. As chairman of the state party, Holcomb will be a member of the Republican National Committee and will be able to vote in its elections next week. Fellow Indiana Committeeman James Bopp Jr., the leader of the Republican National Conservative Caucus, has endorsed Wisconsin GOP Chairman Reince Priebus in the race for RNC chairman.
 
Holcomb replaces Murray Clark, an Indianapolis lawyer and former state Senator who stepped down at the end of the year.
