Rep. Trent Franks appears closer to a decision on whether to enter the Republican primary for Senate in Arizona, with one knowledgeable Grand Canyon State source saying the GOP Congressman has already begun signaling that he will in fact run.

According to an Arizona-based Republican operative, Franks has confided to some in his home state that he intends to run for the seat being vacated next year by Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl (R). A Republican source with knowledge of Franks’ plans said no decision has been made but that an announcement is forthcoming, probably sometime in the next couple of weeks.

“There are a lot of rumors swirling right now, particularly in Arizona,” this source said. “No decision has been made.”

Rep. Jeff Flake (R) has already announced his candidacy, and a handful of other Republicans are known to be considering a bid, as are various Democrats.
