Business Groups Run Radio Ad Against Tester
Two business organizations are running radio ads against Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) in an effort to dissuade him from delaying reforms to the debit card “swipe fees” that are scheduled to go into effect later this year. The Montana Retail Association and Montana Convenience Store Association joined forces on the ad campaign.
“Sen. Tester, we are disappointed,” the ad’s announcer says. “Every year, small businesses in Montana and across the country are forced to send more than $20 billion to big banks and credit card companies to pay for the broken debit card ‘swipe fee’ system.”
Details on the ad buy were not released, and a message seeking comment from a group spokesman was not returned by press time.
The League of Conservation Voters and its state subsidiary have run issue advocacy radio ads against Rep. Denny Rehberg (R), who is challenging Tester next year.
