Christopher Murphy Raised $1.1 Million for Senate Bid
Rep. Christopher Murphy (D) — a Connecticut Senate candidate — raised $1.1 million in the first quarter of the year, according to figures released by his campaign Wednesday.
The haul more than doubles the total of his Democratic primary rival, former Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz, who raised roughly $500,000 over the same time period.
The Murphy campaign notes that 1,600 donors contributed during the first quarter and that 1,100 of them gave $100 or less. Further, 85 percent of contributions came from Connecticut residents.
“Raising $1.1 million in just over two months is amazing. But I’m most proud of the 1,100 small donors who helped us get there,” Murphy said in a statement. “Thousands of people are investing in our campaign because they want a new, fresh voice in the Senate who has a proven record of fighting for progressive values. This campaign is off to a fantastic start, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us in the coming months.”
