The Congressional Management Foundation has elected former Rep. Dan Mica to chair its board of directors.

The Florida Democrat served in the House from 1979 to 1989 before losing a bid for the party’s Senate nomination. From 1996 to 2010, he was president and CEO of the Credit Union National Association.

Mica was chief of staff to then-Rep. Paul Rogers for a decade before succeeding him representing parts of Palm Beach and West Palm Beach. Mica is the younger brother of House Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman John Mica (R-Fla.), who has served since 1993.

“The Congressional Management Foundation has served as an invaluable resource to Congress for more than three decades and I’m honored to support the institution,” Dan Mica said in a statement.

The nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to increasing efficiency on the Hill elected Kelly Johnston as the board of directors’ vice chairman. He served as Secretary of the Senate under then-Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole (R-Kan.) and has also served on the Senate Republican Policy Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

More recently, he was vice president of government affairs of the Campbell Soup Co. since 2002.

“CMF is helping to build trust and effectiveness in Congress,” Johnston said in a statement.

“We’re planning to grow the organization in the months and years to come, seeking to serve Congress as it wrestles with the challenges created by the increased demands of constituents.”

Mica replaces Ira Chaleff, who headed the board of directors for 20 years.

“After nearly 20 years as chairman it is best to bring in some new blood and ideas, and CMF could not have a better leadership team in Dan and Kelly,” Chaleff said in a statement.
