In a scene we’d liken to watching, er, romantic scenes in a movie while sitting next to our parents, a group of lawmakers were serenaded Tuesday night with the dulcet sounds of Madonna’s “Like a Virgin.”

GOP Sens. Lamar Alexander (Tenn.) and Saxby Chambliss (Ga.) along with California Democratic Reps. Henry Waxman and Howard Berman were in the audience at the Library of Congress when songwriter Tom Kelly took the stage to belt out the classic 1980s anthem.

 The lawmakers were among the guests at the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers Foundation’s “We Write the Songs” event at the Library.

According to reports, Kelly — one-half of the hit-making duo Kelly and Steinberg, which penned “Like A Virgin” — did a great job, but the scene was wonderfully awkward.

How awkward?

“Words don’t do it justice, trust me!” a tipster says.

Sadly, the evening was less uncomfortable than it could have been because House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and newly elected Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.) left early.

Jackie DeShannon and Lyle Lovett also played for the crowd. Lady Madge was absent.
