Heard on the Hill: Three Times the Glittering
Rep. Michele Bachmann was the third presidential candidate to get “glittered” so far this election cycle.
The Minnesota Republican got a bit of sparkle to the face to protest her position on same-sex marriage and gay rights. The shiny confetti shower came just after she finished speaking at last weekend’s RightOnline conference.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that the “light-hearted” protest was tossed off by gay and lesbian rights activist Rachel E.B. Lang. To her credit, Bachmann barely flinched and continued walking off the stage.
“You can run, but you can’t hide,” Lang shouted after her. With nearly 30 kids under her belt, we bet this wasn’t the first time that Bachmann’s had glitter thrown at her in protest.
(As an aside, Bachmann chose to use Katy Perry’s self-empowerment anthem “Firework” as one of her campaign songs.)
Bachmann isn’t the first Republican to be glittered. Two women glittered former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty last week, while former Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.) was hit in May.
