Heard on the Hill: Take Five!

Every Tuesday, HOH gets to know a Member of Congress better through a series of five fun questions. This week, HOH chats with freshman Rep. John Carney (D-Del.) about his taste in music, his fondness for classic films and the superpower he would like to have.

Q: What’s your favorite movie?

A: I love “Casablanca.” I also like “Chinatown.” With “Casablanca,” I sit down and say, “I’m not going to watch it,” and I get sucked in.

Q: If you weren’t a Member of Congress, what would your ideal job be?

A: I’d either be a coach or teach third grade. I love little kids.

Q: What’s your favorite band?

A: I go through phases. … I’ve been listening — which drives my sons absolutely crazy — to country music. Particularly the oldies but goodies. Some of the old Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings. My sons like rap. I like Kid Cudi.

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

A: To bring Democrats and Republicans together to solve some of these problems. I don’t ask for much. If I could have a real superpower, of all the different abilities, if I had the speed of a nine-flat hundred meter guy … that would be serious.

Q: If you could have dinner with anyone living or dead, who would it be?

A: I’d like to have dinner with the Kennedys and Martin Luther King Jr. You know, they lived a lot of history together.
