Priorities USA Buys TV Time in Response to Crossroads
A super political action committee run by Democrats responded to Crossroads GPS’ multi-million dollar media blitz with its own advertisement buy Wednesday.
Priorities USA Action bought $750,000 worth of advertisements that will run in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina and Virginia during the next two weeks.
The super PAC’s media buy is a direct response to Crossroads GPS’ spending spree, although the size of the Democrats’ buy is much smaller. The conservative group spent $5 million on advertisements criticizing the president during the next two weeks — a down payment on $20 million they plan to spend during the next two months on similar efforts.
In a statement, Sean Sweeney, a senior strategist with Priorities USA Action, called Crossroads GPS’ ad buy “just the start of the Republicans’ $500 million dollar campaign to tear down the President.”
In their own advertisement, the Democrat-aligned group labeled Crossroads GPS’ spots “politics at its worst” for “blaming President Obama for the economy.”
“The Republicans have opposed economic reforms at every turn,” a narrator says in the spot. “And now they have a plan that would essentially end Medicare for future retirees, slash education, while giving huge tax breaks to Big Oil and the wealthy. We can’t rebuild America if they tear down the middle class.”
