Takano Tries Again, but in a New District

Democrat Mark Takano, who twice challenged Rep. Ken Calvert (R) in the early 1990s, is running for a proposed district in Riverside County, Calif., in which no Member of Congress currently resides.

Takano has been a member of the Riverside Community College District Board of Trustees since his first election in 1990. He remained there during his Congressional bids in 1992 and 1994.

Two Republicans, Assemblyman Jeff Miller and Riverside County Supervisor John Tavaglione, are already in the race.

Takano has already signed up a campaign team that includes media consultant Joe Trippi. John Shallman and Derek Humphrey of Shallman Communications will serve as Takano’s general, field and direct-mail consultants. Alex Evans of EMC Research is Takano’s pollster.

Under the first draft map, Calvert would run in a neighboring, more Republican-friendly district. However, the Southern California map will be altered before redistricting is finalized in August.
