Congressional hopeful Patrick Murphy (D) raised an impressive $450,000 in the second quarter in his campaign for the seat held by Rep. Allen West (R) in Florida’s tossup 22nd district, a top aide told Roll Call on Thursday.

The 28-year-old businessman raised $352,000 in the first three weeks of his campaign during the first quarter.

“I am extremely pleased with the unprecedented support our campaign is receiving,” Murphy said in a statement. “Beating Tea Party darling Allen West is going to require raising a great deal of money, but this campaign is proving we can do it.”

Murphy faces former West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel in the Democratic primary to take on West.

Florida’s decennial redistricting process is unlikely to be complete for a year. The 22nd district could change substantially and alter the contours of the race. Both Murphy and Frankel have said they are likely to run against West wherever he runs.
