Hey everyone! Adorable baby Republicans are running for Congress!

OK. They aren’t babies, but Ricky Gill and Weston Wamp have just barely high-fived their mid-20s, so they are pretty darn young. (They’ll be of age to serve by the time the elections roll around though.)

However, maybe age (and experience?) is just a silly thing because Gill, a 24-year-old law student at the University of California, Berkley, raised $420,000 in the second quarter. He announced his candidacy for California’s 11th district May 17.

In an open letter to supporters asking for contributions, Gill promised that he is running for Congress not just to vote on his constituents’ behalf but to lead on their behalf. A confusing statement, but nonetheless, there it is.

In the letter, he slams the district’s current Congressman, Rep. Jerry McNerney (D).

“The San Joaquin Valley is a community that needs real care and commitment from its representative in Washington,” Gill writes. “Not the halfhearted efforts of a caretaker from the East Bay.”

Boom! Nice slam, Gill, except that California’s redistricting may not have him running against McNerney, in which case he’s just being hurtful. Sigh. Politics.

Moving on.

Wamp is also 24 years young, and he’s the president of his own consulting group called Wamp Strategy.

We guess since his dad, former Rep. Zach Wamp (R-Tenn.), served in Congress for 16 years, that must have supplemented his early years as a political wunderkindergartner and sage adviser.

Warning, though: Rumor has it that the kid has a bit of a temper.

Apparently, during a kerfuffle while working on his dad’s 2010 gubernatorial campaign, young Wamp told an opponent’s staffer that if he hit the guy (he didn’t), but if he had, he would have busted the rival staffer’s teeth in.

Wamp! There it is. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)

Wamp told the New York Times on Tuesday that he is taking a “serious look” at running for his dad’s old seat.
