Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee is being sued by a former staffer for discrimination, the Daily Mail reports.

Mona Floyd, who worked as legislative director for the Texas Democrat, is visually impaired and claims Jackson Lee made denigrating comments about her disability.

Floyd accuses Jackson Lee of saying, “I don’t care anything about your disability.”

Floyd also says Jackson Lee promised to accommodate her disability and then reneged on her word by giving her piles of reading to complete without a break. Floyd is suing for an undisclosed amount in compensatory and punitive damages.

The Daily Mail says Jackson Lee’s office would not comment on the ongoing dispute.

HOH did get one former staffer to comment.

“[Jackson Lee] is incredibly dedicated, knowledgeable and well-spoken,” the staffer tells HOH. “A lot of her issues with staff are that they aren’t as energetic or passionate about the issues like she is.”

“She detests laziness and entitlement,” the former staffer continues. “While many Hill staffers do work hard, there are certainly those who think otherwise. It’s not a good fit for everyone.”

Jackson Lee has been an advocate for the rights of the disabled, including the visually impaired.
